Privacy Policy

Last updated July 10, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Ascoé (“we,” “us”) collects when you use the app, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Ascoé, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

  • Account information: your email address and sign-in method, handled by our authentication provider (Clerk), plus a display name and gender you provide during onboarding.
  • Identity verification: a photo of the front and back of a government-issued ID and your age, submitted once to confirm you're 18 or older. This is reviewed by our moderation team and then retained only as needed to enforce eligibility — see Section 4.
  • Content you create: questions, answers, votes, saves, and reports, including whether you chose to post anonymously.
  • Usage information: login streaks, feed interactions (skip, love, answer), and theme preferences.
  • Device information: a push notification token for your device, if you enable notifications, so we can send you alerts about new answers and reminders.
  • Feedback: anything you submit through the in-app Comments & Concerns form, including an optional contact email.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use this information to operate Ascoé: to verify you meet the age requirement, to show you and other users relevant questions and answers, to maintain your login streak, to send push notifications you've opted into, to moderate content and investigate reports or safety concerns, and to respond to feedback you send us. We do not sell your personal information.

3. Anonymity

When you post a question or answer anonymously, other users do not see your name. This anonymity does not apply internally — our moderation team can always see the account behind any post in order to enforce our Terms, investigate reports, or comply with the law.

4. Data Retention & Deletion

You can permanently delete your account at any time from the Profile page in the app. Deleting your account removes your profile, questions, answers, votes, saves, reports, device tokens, and verification records from our systems. Some information may be retained for a limited period where required for legal, security, or fraud prevention purposes.

5. Third-Party Service Providers

We rely on the following providers to operate Ascoé, each of which processes data on our behalf:

  • Clerk — authentication and account management
  • Neon — database hosting
  • Vercel — app hosting and storage of ID verification photos
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivering push notifications
  • Resend — sending transactional emails (e.g. verification results)

6. Children's Privacy

Ascoé requires ID verification confirming you are 18 or older and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; accounts found to belong to a minor are removed.

7. Your Rights

You can access and update your profile information, delete your account, and turn push notifications on or off at any time from within the app. To request a copy of your data or ask a question about this policy, use the Comments & Concerns form on your Profile page.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of Ascoé after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
